Mechanical toy - Tumbling Teddy Bear

This toy differs from factory mechanical toys in that it does not require either a plant or a battery, since it moves according to the laws of physics - the transformation of potential energy into kinetic. The main detail of the tumbling teddy bear is the internal mechanism that provides movement - a hollow tube with a ball rolling inside.
The tube can be made independently from cardboard of any size, or you can use the finished - the inside of the toilet paper roll. The ball can also be either taken ready-made, but in the absence of one, you can make it yourself.

It is easy to turn a small piece of plasticine with metal objects unnecessary in the household into a heavy ball by hiding the parts (nuts or bolts) in a plasticine shell.


The edges of the cardboard tube must be sealed with a cloth, after placing the ball in it. It is best to take the used fabric so that it has a slight stretch, but you need to seal the bells quite tightly: this will increase the toy's roll-over. First, glue one side of the tube, put a ball in it and glue the second side.


It is necessary to immediately check the action of the mechanism by placing it along the proposed trajectory of motion on an inclined plane. Due to rolling the ball inside the tube, the mechanism should make somersaults.
Now we cut out the details of the soft toy: two patterns of the head, detail of the body - two ovals or one detail in the form of "8".
In the manufacture of the head should first make 4 tucks on each part.
Then we sew the head itself.




After twisting the stitched part, we put it on the mechanism from the tube and fill the remaining voids with pieces of foam rubber or synthetic winterizer.

On each half of the trunk we also make 4 tucks and sew the trunk.
Then we put it on the rest of the tube and also fill it with filler. Sew the head to the body.

We make 4 paws of circles, stitching the edges of the circles with a seam “forward needle” or making a part along the edge. Pull the thread and fill with filler.
Sew paws to the torso.

We have eyes on our heads: we paste them on cardboard, and sew on buttons. It is possible to use ready-made eyes bought in special stores where goods for manual labor are sold.
Instead of a nose, a small ball of black fabric made according to the paw manufacturing algorithm is perfect. But you can use the usual buttons "on the leg."

This toy is very funny tumbling when it is placed on an inclined surface. The child can also put a soft teddy bear to sleep next to him. And if desired, you can play with him the same way as with another ordinary toy. And it’s very good if the child is involved in the manufacture of this simple craft, getting to know kinetics and acquiring manual skills.
