If you are engaged in blacksmithing work (and it doesn’t matter, at home or at the workshop), it is extremely important to organize the workplace correctly in order to make the work process as comfortable as possible. And one of the solutions to this problem is a homemade anvil with a vise, which you can make yourself.
The main stages of work
Since this option is an anvil - a budget, we will use the old vice, which needs to be improved a bit. It is necessary to weld one nut to the inner sides of the handles (closer to the base), and then install a rigid spring (it is advisable to grab its edges with gas or electric welding).
Next, on a lathe, it is necessary to grind a round part under the diameter of the stud so that the jaws of the vice more tightly pressed against each other. Then the outer surface of the jaws must be sanded with a grinder.
Now you can begin to manufacture directly the anvil itself. To do this, you will need a piece of steel I-beam, as well as a thick metal "pancake", which will act as an anvil - both parts must be joined together by welding.
To the bottom of the I-beam, you need to weld a steel sheet of rectangular shape, and to the top - a plate with a groove in which the vice will "sit". We fix all the elements by welding. For greater resistance to the base of the bottom plate, it is necessary to weld another square steel sheet.
After completion of welding work, all joints should be cleaned with a grinder, and the surface should be sanded and painted. A homemade anvil with a vise is ready for use. It is compact in size and practical. Such a vertical table for blacksmithing is useful in any workshop.
