A simple sharpening device for sharpening knives and pricking and cutting tools can be made with your own hands from improvised materials. To make a home-made sharpener you will need a wooden plank, a piece of thick leather and an emery paper of suitable grain size. All these materials can be found without any problems in any workshop.
The main stages of work
For the manufacture of knife sharpeners you will need a wooden plank approximately 15-20 cm long, 7.5 cm wide and 25 mm thick. On the ends of the workpiece on both sides, you need to make small longitudinal cuts with a depth of approximately 3 cm.
Now, along the length of the wooden block, it is necessary to cut off a piece of thick leather and stick it to one of the sides - the leather overlay will be used to finish the finishing of the cutting edge of the blade of the blade. Then you need to cut the strips with sandpaper (6 cm longer than the length of the bar) 7.5 cm wide.
The edges of the sandpaper are cut into the cuts on the ends of the bar. To fix the sandpaper, you can use any materials at hand. For example, it is possible to flatten two metal bottle caps, bend one edge to them approximately to the middle, and then insert these “discs” into the end cut, clamping the emery cloth.
The result is a simple double-sided whetstone for knives and cutting tools6 on one side is sandpaper, on the other - thick leather. In the comments below the video, write what you think about this home-made device.
