A compact potbelly stove as an oven for heating is a good option for a garage, a home workshop or a house in the country. You can make a potbelly stove with your own hands from a 50 liter gas cylinder (propane). Before cutting the cylinder with a grinder, it must be filled with water.
To do this, you first need to unscrew the valve. Many people think that this is difficult. However, in reality, only 1 out of 10 taps on a propane cylinder is "capricious." In order to unscrew the valve, clamp the bottom support of the cylinder with a vise. Then we put a gas or adjustable wrench on the tap, strengthen the lever with a piece of pipe, and thus unscrew it.
After filling the tank to the top with water, we put on top a pipe of a suitable diameter in order to mark the hole for the future chimney. After that, cut a round hole with a grinder.
The process of making potbelly stoves
Approximately 20-30 mm should be retreated from the upper weld (on the cylinder), and then this "cap" should be cut off. If you cut along the weld itself, then you will fall on a thickening in the form of a steel plate welded inside the cylinder. In this case, it will take longer to cut.
At the next stage, you need to mark and cut the doors: one under the combustion chamber, the second under the ash pan. When cutting doors, leave small “jumpers” in the corners. They can be cut after welding the hinges.
