Even from an ordinary piece of peaceful iron, you can make a formidable weapon - a tactical tomahawk (klevets). Homemade ax will appeal to both extremals on their trips and simply to connoisseurs of original handmade things.

Making a formidable weapon, the master begins with the most basic - the choice of good steel. And in this case, tool steel fits perfectly. It hardens well, but it is not as fragile as rapid.

The main material is the old disk from the tractor plow. The workpiece is marked and a gas burner comes into play. With it, the future ax is quickly cut out of the body of the disk.

The main stages of work

Further, the master from the welder becomes a blacksmith - he heats the workpiece and gives it the correct shape on the anvil. In this way, it removes the deformation of the workpiece and relieves unnecessary stress in the metal itself.

On a home-made grinding machine, the author of the work gives the workpiece the final contour, removing burrs and sharp corners. The ax takes a nice shape.

Further, step by step, the author leads him to a finished look. Drills holes for fastening the future handle, polishes the blade with a grinding bar.

Then the master tempers the ax in oil for greater strength. He releases the voltage of the metal in the electric oven - heats up and allows it to cool slowly. The product becomes final after etching. No one will say that this sparkling black metal was once a piece of rusty iron.

Having watched this video, it becomes obvious that having the necessary arsenal of tools and materials (in this case, a plow disk) is at hand, it’s realistic to make do-it-yourself cold steel samples that are in no way inferior to the well-known global brands.
