Simple clamp

A very useful and simple little thing can be done for your workshop in just a few minutes - this is a clamp from a piece of profile. Using it, you can fix workpieces from both metal and wood. So if you suddenly needed to clamp the workpiece in several places, it will not be difficult to make several clamps for such work.
Profile sizes are different, you can choose any to fit your needs.

Will need

  • A piece of steel U-shaped profile.
  • Two wide nuts, better home-made, if possible.
  • Long bolt.
  • Thin long bolt or piece of steel bar.

Most have everything in their garages, and if not, then buying in the nearest hardware store will not be difficult.

Clamp making

From the profile piece, it is necessary to cut the desired size, for this we draw a line along which we will cut.

We cut off the grinder along the line. Sharpen the sharp edges.
For greater parallelism of the internal planes of the profile, we bend the sides with hammer blows.

In one of the sides we drill a through hole, with a diameter greater than the diameter of the thread of the large bolt.

Drilled.

Weld the nut by arc welding from the outside of the profile.

We tighten the bolt to make sure that everything goes fine and does not hurt.

We weld a thin one on top of a thick bolt.

This will be the handle behind which the clamp clamp will rotate.

To increase the pressure area, we weld a nut on the end of the bolt.

Now the clamp is ready. We pass to tests.
I did several at once, it took no more than two dozen minutes. I press the steel plate to the table. It keeps excellent.

For best performance, a good solution would be to lubricate the threads with graphite or other grease.
A significant disadvantage of this design is that when tightened, the pressure sole leaves a mark on the fixed product, as it rotates with the bolt. For some types of work, this is certainly not creative, if you need to avoid this, place a lining of a piece of steel under the pressure nut.
All the best!
